Chip Carving in 1922

Chip carving is a branch of woodworking that has been popular for a long time.  In fact, my plan is to start this site with the content of the book "Chip Carving" by Harris W. Moore.  He published his book in 1922 so you can see that Chip Carving has been of interest to wood carvers for a long time.

The book was published by the Manual Arts Press.  During that time there seems to have been a whole school of educational philosophy that promoted training for the trades.  There are many books on a variety of craft subjects that were published then; this is just one of them.

The only tools needed are a very sharp knife and a lot of time.  The sharpness is especially important because it is required to get the clean cuts that are the mark of a quality carving.

Chip carved items are also popular on Ebay.  It is a hobby that was practiced in Europe and items such as nutcrackers are available from there.  It is occasionally seen in prisoner of war items too.
