Chip Carving Instructions
PICTURE FRAME
The recess for the picture should be cut with chisel and router plane before the carving is executed.
The circular opening can be cut with a large expansive bit or with a scroll saw.
If the frame is to hang on the wall a small brass screw-eye may be used.
PHOTOGRAPH FRAME
The play of light and shade on this design when carved is much more interesting than the drawing suggests.
The carving should be kept delicate, hence the flat radiating and elliptical bands must be made narrow. The narrower they are, however, the more liable to split are those which run across the grain.
A pocket into which the photograph slips is built on the back.
The brace presupposes the use of the frame as an easel.
